Balseme Ch. Sangma is a graduate of Dorcas Training Centre (DTC), Khaibung, Nagaland. She hails from East Garo Hills, Meghalaya. Her teenage life was not an easy one since her parents did not earn enough for the family. Her father is a mason and her mother a home maker. She dropped out from school in X standard so that the rest of the three siblings could go to school.
As she was helping her parents in looking after the family, a community leader introduced her to join DTC. She did not even understand what kind of learning she will get as she joined the Centre. There was a major problem in the initial stage as there was language barrier. She spoke neither English nor Hindi and there was no common dialect for communication. However, in spite of these obstacles she did not give up. She gave her best in the tailoring skill training and scored highest among the trainees in the annual assessment. Meanwhile she learned Hindi and English from the literacy class organized by the Centre and also from her fellow trainees. Now, she can speak Hindi and understand English to some extent.
Seeing her zeal and potential, she was selected for advanced course on Advanced Life Skill Training and Development Course (ALTDC), Priscilla Centre, Guwahati and joined from the month of January 2018. The instructor in Priscilla Centre observed that she is open to learning and producing quality products.
In her third month of training, Balsame expressed, “I have learned many new skills- to lead, manage and grow in personality. I am stitching bags for the first time and I like doing it. The training that I am receiving from Priscilla Centre has given me more confidence about my future prospects.
